LIVE FROM THE HANGING GARDENS EVENT IN EAST LONDON, E2

As distant memories of blistering summer sun bleed into the windswept evenings of September, Hard Of Hearing Music and Hackney Coffee Company joined arms once again for the second edition of ‘live from The Hanging Gardens’, a night of stripped back, live, new music.

Naima Bock opened proceedings on the night revealing a love of intimate left-field folk. Her touching vocal and floating harmonies were backed by haunting basslines and punchy keys showcasing her intimate songcraft and magnetic stage presence.

Gemini Sun brought their psych-tinged rhythms to the stage, playing cuts from their EP ‘Polyhedral’. Vocally, frontman Sam Dukes bounced between a gravelly Lou Reed drawl and something more intimate, and folk-inspired.

The night’s headliner was Oscar Browne, and anybody previously unfamiliar with the talent of the ex-Dead Pretties man was sure to be dazzled. Coming up sonically somewhere between Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, Oscar’s piercing falsetto glided over the crowd to a backdrop of duelling shoegaze-inspired guitar play. With no official releases to his name as yet and a catalogue of first-rate material on offer live, Oscar Browne will certainly be a name to watch out for in 2019.
